St Anne’s – Our Story
Sr. Deepa, Principal's Message
We facilitate a healthy mix of education, spirituality, games, social awareness and teamwork. That is how a school should be.
As a new principal of St Anne’s, I’m happy to see students in high spirits. It’s my deep desire to provide the means for students to acquire academic knowledge and the necessary skills to develop interpersonal relationships.
At St Anne’s, we help educate girls from the average & middle class families. The girls score good ranks and actively participate in co-curricular activities.
Founder’s History
St Anne’s Educational Institutions are managed by the registered Society of the Sisters of St.Anne, Madras founded in 1874 by Mother Thatipathri Gnanamma.
During the 80’s, education was gender biased. Mother Gnanamma visited a remote village where a primary school only admitted boys. Seeing such a bias, mother sold off all her properties and started a school in 1862, at Kilacheri for girls.
Her school service spread wide and many were drawn to be her apostolate. Two young women Arulamma and Agathamma who were inspired by Mother Gnanamma, worked with her. They contiuned the school service after her demise.
Thus, two Congregations, namely St. Anne’s of Madras and St. Anne’s of Phirangipuram came in to existence with the sole purpose of continuing Mother’s service.
Later in 2014, the Holy See, jurisdiction of the Bishop of Rome declared Mother Gnanamma as the servant of God.
